This 2-day course, taught as an educational workshop, will provide systems engineers, software engineers, and project/program managers with specific tools and techniques they can immediately apply in current and modern Agile (Scrum) Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) and Application Development Lifecycle Management (ADLM) projects. Emphasis will be placed on, “Getting It Right, Right From the Start”. Participants will learn and practice Lean Method process steps for collaboratively developing the initial Product Backlog Item (PBI) set (i.e., initial Work Items) for Agile (Scrum) ALM/ADLM projects.

Agile (Scrum) ALM/ADLM Project Planning.
- Actionable information on using Lean Methods, Design Thinking, and Affinity Diagramming to collaboratively develop an initial set of Agile (Scrum) ALM/ADLM project work items.
- “Problem Validation” via hands-on collaborative development of a sharable and reusable Product Vision Board Extended (PVBE).
- “User Validation” via collaborative development of Persona Templates.
- “Solution Validation” through collaborative development of a dynamic Product Canvas.
- “Solution Building Blocks” via an interactive User Story Workshop and Story Mapping.
- “Solution-Ready Product Backlog Item (PBI) Set” through the collaborative final development and prioritization of an initial solution-ready set of Agile (Scrum) ALM/ADLM work items.

Mike Pafford has more than 40 years of experience in analyzing, designing, architecting, developing, testing, operating, and managing complex tasking, collection, processing, exploitation, analysis, dissemination, and reporting systems for the intelligence community. He is President-Elect of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) Chesapeake Chapter, as well as Co-Chairman of the INCOSE Object-Oriented Systems Engineering Method (OOSEM) Working Group. He is an Instructor of Software Systems Engineering in the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) Engineering for Professionals (EP) Masters in Systems Engineering curriculum.
